The Grand Ronde Tribe hosts its annual contest Powwow the third weekend of August each year at the Uyxat Powwow Grounds. Some of the powwow’s major contests include singing and dancing with dance competitions in various categories. The Powwow includes vendors selling a variety of handcrafted items and artwork. The Powwow is meant as a way for tribes to unite, share their stories and histories, and teach the next generation about their culture and experiences. It is also a time of celebration for the people who are new and for the people who are gone, as well as a time to continue the traditions of dance. This three-day event brings in people from across the United States and is one of the largest powwows of the Northwest.
